To see clearly is poetry, prophecy and religion, all in one.\u201d \u2013 John Ruskin<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I am a documentary and fine art photographer who has been crafting images since I was a boy. I always carry a camera of some sort \u2013 cellphone, pocket camera, SLR \u2013 to capture and preserve what I see. One common critique of photography is that it can distract us from being fully present in the current moment \u2013 \u201cYou\u2019re not really experiencing the world when you\u2019re looking through a lens.\u201d As a long-time Buddhist student and meditator, photography has the opposite effect for me: rather than using viewfinder and lens to distance myself from the world, I use the camera to encourage close attention to the here and now that might otherwise go unnoticed. Each of my photographs is a deliberate act of presence and observation, to encourage my own and the viewer\u2019s full attention.<\/p>\n<p>I have photographed for a wide range of media outlets, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">USA Today<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/sfist.com\/author\/ted\/\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SFist<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefrisc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Frisc<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/author\/tedw\/\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mission Local<\/a>. My art photography has been exhibited at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sausalitocenterforthearts.org\/\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sausalito Center for the Arts<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/drawingroomsf.com\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Drawing Room Gallery<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artspan.org\/\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ArtSpan<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roomandboard.com\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Room &amp; Board<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sanramon.ca.gov\/our_city\/departments_and_divisions\/parks_community_services\/arts_culture\/art_galleries\/lindsay_dirkx_brown_art_gallery\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lindsay Dirks Brown Gallery<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacfinearts.org\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sacramento Fine Arts Center<\/a>.
