\u201cThe greatest thing a human soul ever does in this world is to see something and tell what it saw in a plain way. Hundreds of people can talk for one who can think, but thousands can think for one who can see. To see clearly is poetry, prophecy and religion, all in one.\u201d \u2013 John Ruskin<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n I am a documentary and fine art photographer who has been crafting images since I was a boy. I always carry a camera of some sort \u2013 cellphone, pocket camera, SLR \u2013 to capture and preserve what I see. One common critique of photography is that it can distract us from being fully present in the current moment \u2013 \u201cYou\u2019re not really experiencing the world when you\u2019re looking through a lens.\u201d As a long-time Buddhist student and meditator, photography has the opposite effect for me: rather than using viewfinder and lens to distance myself from the world, I use the camera to encourage close attention to the here and now that might otherwise go unnoticed. Each of my photographs is a deliberate act of presence and observation, to encourage my own and the viewer\u2019s full attention.<\/p>\n I have photographed for a wide range of media outlets, including USA Today<\/a>, SFist<\/a>, The Frisc<\/a>, and Mission Local<\/a>. My art photography has been exhibited at Sausalito Center for the Arts<\/a>, Drawing Room Gallery<\/a>, ArtSpan<\/a>, Room & Board<\/a>, Lindsay Dirks Brown Gallery<\/a> and Sacramento Fine Arts Center<\/a>.
